Bereavement Support
You are not alone. We are here to walk beside you. Quietly, gently, and with care.
Grief is deeply personal, and no one should have to face it without support. At Omniacare, our bereavement support program provides compassionate guidance from the moment a patient is admitted through the first year after their passing. Whether grief begins long before or long after a loss, our team is here to walk with you at every step.
Our Approach
Support That Begins Early and Continues with You
Our program includes anticipatory grief support for families who begin grieving before a loss occurs. For others, grief may surface later and that is normal. Whenever you need us, support is available.
A Dedicated Bereavement Team
You will have a bereavement professional devoted entirely to supporting families through:
- Assessments
- One-to-one support
- Group programs
- Resource coordination
One-to-One Support
Healing often begins with simple conversation. Omniacare offers individualized grief support in ways that fit your needs:
Private in-office sessions for a safe, reflective space
In-home visits when travel feels difficult or overwhelming
Anticipatory grief care for families preparing for loss
If deeper or specialized emotional support is needed, we can refer you to trusted outside counseling resources.
Support Groups & Community Connection
Connection helps us remember we’re not alone in our grief. Our support groups welcome all types of loss and offer community, understanding, and shared healing.
Traditional Grief Support Group
A gentle, open setting to share experiences and learn coping tools.
Creative Coping Group
A space to explore grief through writing, art, and other creative mediums.
Grief Café Book Club
Thoughtful discussions inspired by books on grief, healing, love, and loss.
Monthly calendars and RSVP details are provided through our bereavement mailings.
Monthly Newsletters & Resources
Each month, families receive supportive materials with:
- Insightful articles on emotions, coping, and healing
- Guidance for navigating holidays, anniversaries, and milestones
- Invitations and schedules for upcoming support groups
- Contact information for the bereavement team
These newsletters may also be shared with local care facilities to reach more individuals in need of support.
Community Workshops
We offer workshops throughout the year designed to educate and support families, caregivers, and the larger community. Topics may include:
- Understanding hospice vs. palliative care
- Estate planning, advance directives, and caregiver resources
- Grief education and emotional well-being
- Caregiver fatigue and burnout
When possible, we partner with professionals who volunteer their expertise to enrich these sessions.
Honoring Loved Ones & Supporting Our Team
Grief touches everyone connected to the hospice experience, including our staff.
Memory Tree Ritual
During interdisciplinary team meetings, we honor patients who have died by adding their names to our Memory Tree. This ritual allows our care team moments of reflection and acknowledgement.
Staff Support Sessions
We host open forums for staff focused on grief, burnout, spirituality, and emotional resilience.
Annual Memorial Service
Each year, Omniacare hosts a memorial service to honor and celebrate the lives of the patients we have cared for. Families, friends, and staff are invited to gather, reflect, and share in collective healing.
